The Iris flowers’ characteristic feature is having three petals often called the ‘standards’ and three outer petal-like sepals called the ‘falls’. They can grow in deserts, in swamps, in the cold far north, and in temperate climates. In France and Italy, Irises start blooming in early summer in the months of June, July and August. Their soft, fluttering petals remind us of butterfly wings flapping gently in the breeze.
